Small projects

Additional to GAVO's main projects, we also have a number of smaller ones that are shown here.

"Virtual Slide of the Week" (outreach project)

Series of "lightening" small talks or demonstrations, 5-10 minutes each. Targeted on Astrophysicists without taking up too much time. Slides: See documents

The Potsdam Plate Archive

The Astrophysical Institute Potsdam, together with the Sternwarte Sonnenberg, has a large archive of plates from night time observations most of which are already digitised. Addionally the AIP's Solar Observatory Einsteinturm has a large collection of (partly scanned) solar image plates. In a first step the plate scans will be included to the Sofia Wide-Field Plate database (http://www.skyarchive.org). GAVO will install a German mirror of the WFPDB to improve the connection speed and to make it possible to include the database in the VO.

Collaboration with AstroGrid-D

Several GAVO projects are connected to the German Grid Initiative (AstroGrid-D). The Grid integrated Robotical Telescopes will support the use of the VOevent protocol. The HiSbase system of the Technische Universität München is planned to adopt the VOQL protocol. Also GAVO will need to make use of the grid's storage and compute ressources for data storage and reduction.
