Products: Archives, Services & Software
GAVO has focused on a selected set of work areas and projects, which have led to a number of products broadly described below. These products can serve as working examples for other developers who wish to pursue similar goals.GAVO's products can be subdivided in three different categories labeled as Archives, Services and Software.
- In the Archives category we describe projects dealing with technologies allowing an efficient and flexible archiving of astronomical datasets, and with VO compatible archive publication. We have concentrated on using relational databases for storing astronomical archives that so far were stored in files.
- In the Services category we show results of projects that were aimed at implementing typical VO(-like) services and making these available via the Web. The services range from simple, standard cone searches, through more complex query services, to complex multi-catalogue matching and classification services.
- In the Software category we provide software tools that a user can download and install on his/her machine. These products range from simple template scripts, that show examples of how to execute SOAP-based Web services to fully fledged applications, such as the MCMCS Download Manager.
There is actually a fourth product category, comprising publications, presentations, and other documents such as technical reports. The latter category contains descriptions of methods that we have used in solving particular problems.
