Gaia VO Day Berlin 2017
This workshop will take part on 2017-03-02 and 2017-03-03 at room EW 109 (1. floor, Eugene-Wigner building), Hardenbergstr. 36, 10623 Berlin and will be held by Dr. Stefan Jordan and Hendrik Heinl (both ZAH/ARI).
With the first Gaia data release in Spetember 2016, a new era in Astronomy has begun. The data release contains astrometric data for more than 1 billion objects. Therefore, the access to these data will become a challenge due to the sheer amount.
In order to help you mastering this challenge, GAVO and the Gaia group at ARI set up a two days workshop programme to teach astronomers how to access and how to use the data. There will also be time to discuss your science cases and how your science can benefit from the services provided by GAVO and the Gaia group.
This workshop will cover the following aspects:
- What's in the Gaia DR1 ?
- Where do you need to be careful interpreting these data?
- Navigation through and access to the data using VO tools, especially TAP and ADQL.
Please install the software we will use in the course in advance. All of these tools require Java to be installed on your machine. If you have problems during installation, don't hesitate to contact us.
As prerequisites you will need:
- A laptop
